NWOKC Chamber plans day to visit NWOKC Legislators

In a tumultuous year with major budget shortfalls, proposed tax increases, and state agencies operating in near crisis mode, the Northwest Oklahoma City Chamber has planned a day for its members to meet with NWOKC area legislators to share their priorities and to learn more about all the issues.

Prior to the Governor’s State of the State speech, the chamber’s board approved the following Legislative Priorities for 2017.  A major development proposed by the Governor would be to create a new sales tax on 164 services, which would directly impact most Chamber member businesses.  NWOKC Chamber Members are asked to provide feedback on this proposal and how it would directly impact their business, understanding that most state agencies have already absorbed major cuts over the last several years and that essential government services like teacher pay, public safety/corrections, mental health, and human services are all in dire need of funding.

On Wednesday, March 1, Chamber Members will meet at the State Capitol at 10 AM and meet in small groups with senators and representatives for short meetings.  At 11:30 AM all Chamber members participating, as well as members of the 2017 Leadership Northwest Class will meet with the Lawmakers over Lunch in the Governor’s Blue Room. Lunch is $20  and RSVP is needed by Noon February 27.  Please RSVP HERE or call 405-789-1256

They will share all correspondence with the representatives and draw their attention to the correspondence from their constituents.
